Artist Statement
In many forms I find myself in the doing - food, interior spaces, concepts, dirt, clay or paint. When I lose myself in the process of creation - letting my intuition take over where thinking stops - my inner landscape finds new language in the outer.
An intuitive, tactile, and spontaneous process informs my work. Seeking freedom in my expression, fully engaging my senses to allow my thinking to subside and my subconscious to take over.
I use highly gestural marks and brush strokes to evoke emotion, movement, and freedom within my work. Obliterating, refining, and covering becomes layered textures and I mix colors on the canvas to refine pigments and to create washes. Bold colors dominate my work. My mediums are pencil, acrylics, and oil sticks, and I like to work on and with found objects.
